Third Quarter Goals Reflection

My goals for third quarter are to get a 4.0 GPA or atleast all A’s and B’s. Eventhough we just begun the quarter I am starting good and I am going to continue to stay on track. What I have been doing to keep my grades in each class at A’s is to do all my classwork and homework. I am also strudying everyday for atleast 15 minutes and asking for help if I don’t understand something. Something I could do differently is pay more attention in class and not talk so much with my fellow peers, eventhough it is hard not to. By the end of the quarter I am expecting to feel pleased with my grades because I know that I am going to reach my goals.

Symbolism and Allegory Unit Reflection

Over the past two weeks, we studies symbolism and allegory. As we conclude our unit, I have learned what allegory and symbolism mean. For allegory we read the story called “ Animal Farm” and we also did a graphic organizer of all the character in the story. My favorite assignment we did for allegory was the blogspot about kids at SPA starting a revolution. For symbolism we read the story “Through the Tunnel”. My favorite assigment was the Through the Tunnel” Foster Youth Initiation paragraph because it talks about foster youth and their experience going thorugh the system. After learning about symbolism and allegory I have learned that things can have many different meaning.

“Animal Farm” Character’s Symbolic Meaning Paragraph

In the story “Animal Farm” by George In the story “Animal Farm” by George Orwell, the character Snowball represents initiative in the story. An example that shows this is when Snowball thinks about the idea of the windmill. In the story Snowball studies architecture and he is the one who came up with the idea of the windmill to better the farm. When Snowball starts the building of the windmill this also shows that he takes initiative to start something to better the Revolution the animlas started. People who are wise and intelligent use their techniques to help better something for themselves or for others as well.

Animal Farm Revolution at SPA

If the students of SPA had a revolution and took over the campus it would be extremely chaotic. If the students did take over SPA I would imagine this is how it would be.

All the students at SPA were displesed by all the rules that the staff were enforcing and creating, that they decided to start a revolution. It was on a Thursday and some of the students decided to meet to plan how it was going to happen. The day after, which was Friday all the students got out of school and everything was normal. All the sudents were acting normal so that the staff wouldn't suspect anything was going on. When everyone was at home for dinner hour one students stole the keys to the house. Then they opened the houseparents side and they tricked the staff into going in the room. When the staff was finally in the room they would close the door and lock it leaving the staff in there. Once all the staff were locked in the houseparents side the students were able to wander the campus and do as they please, until they got caught days later by the police.

House Symbols

A dove symbolizes my house which is girls 1. To most people a dove is just a bird but to us it represents unity and peace. All the girls in my house work together to get along and have peace in the house. Sometimes we have days that it doesn't happen but most days the girls are good with having peace. As a house we work together to be united and also work together if we have a problem with anything. In weddings doves are used to symbolize unity and that i how girls 1 is. Our house is united and we try to be peaceful amongst each other.

San Pasqual Academy Dragons Symbolism

The mascot of San Pasqual Academy is a dragon. Our mascot symbolizes strength, courage, power, and individuality. Many of the students here at the Academy are courageous and have a lot of strength because of their past experiences and a dragon has strength and courage. A dragon is known for its power and many of our students have the power over their lives. Each and every student on our campus is unique and has individuality, nobody is the same as each other. A dragon is the same as the students because it’s unique and just like us, they are individual. To be an SPA Dragon is an honor because not everyone can say they had a bad childhood but they chose to turn it around just like the Dragons here at the academy.

“Through the Tunnel” Foster Youth Initiation

Even though they don’t have to swim through a tunnel like Jerry in “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing, foster youth are initiated into and out of the foster care system. When a youth enters or is put in the foster care system they faces many emotional problems. This sometimes causes problems and chaos for the adolecent because they are forced to be with people that they don’t know and live with them. This also causes trouble for the adolecent because they have to adjust living with starngers and being awayf rom there relatives or family members. As the teen leaves the system they are forced to grow up quicker than other kids and have to transition into an adult faster. An adolecent in the foster care system doesn’t have time to be a kid and matures at a young age because of their experiences or struggles. As a result of this initiation, the teen matures and is able to be independent and do things on their own, needing little or no help from others.

“Through the Tunnel” Comprehension Paragraph

In “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing, I find it convincing that Jerry takes a risk to go through the tunnel and survives. I am convinced he survived because in the story he was so determined to find the tunnel and he does find it. Also, in the story Jerry went down to the bay to work on his breathing to try and go through the tunnel. He is so determined to go throught the tunnel and p-ractice on his breathing that he doesn’t care if his nose bleeds or he has major head aches. Another reason I find it convincing Jerry survives is because even after he was in the tunnel and felt like he wasn’t going to make it to the other end he did.

“Through the Tunnel” Prove Yourself Paragraph

I have achieved many things but the one that is the most important is that I was able to forgive people. At first when someone did something wrong that would hurt me or make me upset I would hold a grudge against them. After, I learned that it’s not good to hold grudges on people or be upset at them no matter what they did or how bad they hurt you. I was able to achieve this by analyzing the situation and if it didn’t make sense I would just let it go. I also achieved this by thinking about if it was worth being mad at someone or just letting it go if it wasn’t serious. If someone hurt me to the point where I was extremely hurt I would be upset but I would let it go even if they did it intentionally because I learned that people will always hurt you or do wrong towards you but in the end it’s up to me to let them hurt me or just forgive them

Third Quarter Goals

Third quarter I want to get a 4.0 GPA or at least all A’s and one B. To achieve my goal I would have to study for my test and just study to gain more knowledge. Another thing I would have to do to achieve my goal is stay focused and if I need help on any assignment I will ask for help. I will also try harder and push myself to do outstanding work, not just okay work but work that deserves an A. Third quarter I will not give up or procrastinate and get my entire work done.

Winter Break Experience

This winter break vacation was extremely exciting and fun. I spent time with my family for Christmas but unfortunatley I didn’t for New Years. I had so much fun eventhough most of my break I spent it at SPA. I was so fortunate to have such a great mentor, she took me to Universal Studios L.A. That was one of the funnest things I did on my break. I was so stoked and impatient when I found out that I was going to go. When the day finally came my mentor came to pick me up early and we left on our adventure.
When we got to Los Angeles it was very different than San Diego and the weather left me speechless. It was so cold that my lips would chatter every time I tried to talk. When we got to Universal Studios we took a tour of the valley and I got to see where Desparate House Wives is filmed. One of the most amazing things that I experience that day was the King Kong 360 3-D show. It was one of the most thrilling moments of the whole day. I also got to see GrinchMas, which was the whole theme of the park.
My mentor and I were able to see Shrek 4-D, Terminator 3-D, and many other things on our trip to Universal Studios. We were able to get on a ride called The Mummy, and it was breathtaking and undescribable. We also got on a ride called Jurassic Park which was a water ride and eventough it was freezing, we still got on it and it was worth it. I had so much fun that day because of all the technology and animation that I saw and because I was with my mentor. I will always remember this day because of all the advanced technology.
