“Through the Tunnel” Foster Youth Initiation

Even though they don’t have to swim through a tunnel like Jerry in “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing, foster youth are initiated into and out of the foster care system. When a youth enters or is put in the foster care system they faces many emotional problems. This sometimes causes problems and chaos for the adolecent because they are forced to be with people that they don’t know and live with them. This also causes trouble for the adolecent because they have to adjust living with starngers and being awayf rom there relatives or family members. As the teen leaves the system they are forced to grow up quicker than other kids and have to transition into an adult faster. An adolecent in the foster care system doesn’t have time to be a kid and matures at a young age because of their experiences or struggles. As a result of this initiation, the teen matures and is able to be independent and do things on their own, needing little or no help from others.

  1. This is a really good paragraph bestie, because it talks about everything that most foster youth have to go through.
